EMII online event “Book Club: When the Dust Settles” is on the 28th of April 2022.

Guest Speaker: Professor Lucy Easthope, PhD

Professor Lucy Easthope is the UK’s leading authority on recovering from disaster. She has challenged us to think differently about what comes next after tragic events. Lucy is a passionate and thought-provoking voice in emergency management.

Lucy is known globally for her work and holds research positions in the UK and New Zealand. She is a Professor in Practice of Risk and Hazard at the University of Durham and Fellow in Mass Fatalities and Pandemics at the Centre for Death and Society, University of Bath.

This event is centred around Lucy’s forthcoming book: “When the Dust Settles: Stories of Love, Loss and Hope from an Expert in Disaster”. The book will be released on March 31st and can be pre-ordered from local bookshops or online. It is available in hardcover, softbound, kindle, and audiobook formats.

Lucy will join us for a live online book club event on Thursday, 28th April at 7.30pm. It will run for approximately 90 minutes, during which she will read an extract from her book, and you will get the opportunity to discuss aspects of the book with her.

Caroline McMullan will be moderating the event, so please feel free to send her questions in advance if you’d prefer to sit back and listen on the night. Her email address is: [email protected]

Everyone is welcome regardless of whether you’ve read the book or not.

To celebrate the launch of Lucy’s book and our first book club event, the EMII is running a competition for ten members to win a copy of “When the Dust Settles”. To be in with a chance to win, please register for this event no later than March 16th, 2022. Winners will receive their book as soon as it is released – in plenty of time to have it read before our event.

This event is free to EMII members and MSEM graduates but booking is essential.
For those who are attending, please note that you will receive an email from [email protected] with the Zoom link included 3 days before the event.

Please note: When booking, please include your full name and email address (a phone number is not required).
This event will not be recorded.
