EMII Breakfast Briefing: A Review of the Responses to Storm Éowyn – 28th November – 08:30 am, DCU Business School
Light breakfast from 8:00 am
Dear EMII Members,
We invite you to attend our upcoming EMII Breakfast Briefing on Friday, 28th November, hosted at DCU Business School. This session will examine the coordinated national and local responses to Storm Éowyn, one of the most destructive severe-weather events to impact Ireland in recent decades.
The briefing will be delivered by senior representatives from the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM), led by Paul Rock. Drawing on the recently published Review of Storm Éowyn, the speakers will outline how the storm was forecast, how national and local structures were activated under the National Emergency Coordination Group (NECG), and how essential services, local authorities and emergency responders worked together through the immediate response and recovery phases.
The session will highlight:
- Lessons emerging from the multi-agency response
- Challenges experienced in infrastructure, communications, humanitarian support and local coordination
- Key recommendations for strengthening national preparedness and resilience
- Actions already underway to improve readiness for the 2025/26 winter season
Given the significant operational, strategic and policy learnings arising from Storm Éowyn, this briefing will be of particular interest to emergency managers, local authority staff, infrastructure operators, and all stakeholders involved in preparedness, response and recovery planning.
